EZ Bar Weight

You might have noticed that some Ez bars feel heavier than others. But if you want to accurately track your progress you will want to know how much an ez bar weighs.

Quick Answer

When it comes to an Ez bar, they generally weigh anywhere between 10 and 30 lbs (5 to 14 kg). But it does depend on the specific type of Ez bar that we're talking about, so here is a quick chart with the estimated weight by type.

Ez Bar Weight Chart

 Bar Type Weight Range
Olympic Ez Bar 47"

20 - 25 lbs

Standard Spin Lock Ez Bar

10 - 20 lbs

Super Ez Bar 47" 20 - 25 lbs
Ez Curl Cable Attachment 30" 7 - 8 lbs

If you are unsure of what type of Ez bar you are using, we will help you identify the different types below.

What Is an Ez Bar?

EZ Bar

For those who are not familiar, an EZ curl bar is a special type of barbell that features an ergonomic shaft that is cambered in shape and specifically designed for biceps curls but it is also great for other exercises.

The different angles on an EZ bar at which you can hold it allow you to train various parts of your biceps muscles.

At the same time, because of the more ergonomically friendly design, they also put much less stress on your wrist than regular barbells.

What's pretty cool about the EZ bar is that it can also be used for many other types of exercises, such as skull crushers, back rows, upright rows, triceps extensions, shoulder presses, and more.

How Much Does an EZ Bar Weigh?

As we mentioned earlier an Ez bar weighs anywhere from 10 to 30 pounds (5 to 14kg).

However, there are different types of Ez bars out there, and they can vary drastically in materials, length, thickness, and more.

As you can tell from our Ez bar weight chart above, these factors can make a pretty big difference in terms of how much you're lifting.

So here is a list of the main types of EZ bars and how much they weigh.

Olympic EZ Bar

Standard EZ Bar

The most common type of Ez bar that you will find at almost any commercial gym is the Olympic EZ bar. Normally, they are about 47 inches long and come with Olympic Sleeves and a 1-inch bar shaft.

These normally weigh between 20 to 25 lbs (9kg to 11kg). But if you have a longer version that is rackable then it could weigh up to 35 pounds with no weight added, but those are quite rare.

It is easy to see why this type of Ez bar is the most popular as the Olympic sleeves allow the weights to easily rotate reducing the strain on your wrists which would be an issue when trying to perform arm exercises.

Standard Spin Lock EZ Bar

standard Ez Bar

We then have the standard spinlock EZ bar, which is generally only found in home gyms as they are the cheapest option but can also be the lightest.

They normally have a 1-inch thick bar shaft and about 47 inches long like we say with the previous type.

But you will need to make a note of whether the bar is hollow or not to make a more accurate estimate of its weight.

If the bar is hollow then it likely weighs about 10lbs, but if it is a solid bar, then chances are it weighs about to 20lbs.

While the lightweight Ez bars tend to weigh less and as a result also cost less, they will also not have the same weight capacity as a solid version.

Plus, the spinlock system makes it much slower to change the weight plates on the bar which is why you don't see these very often at commercial gyms.

But this won't be an issue for some people who want a convenient home workout.

Super EZ Bar

Super EZ Bar

Although the Super Ez bar looks very similar to the Olympic Ez bar, there is a subtle difference in how the bar is bent.

The Super Ez Curl Bar has a more exaggerated bend to offer slightly different grip angles. This allows you to have more of a neutral grip in the middle so you can perform hammer curls and a variety of other exercises.

Due to how similar the Super Ez bar is to the Orginal Olympic Ez bar with the 1-inch bar shaft and Olympic sleeves. The Super Ez bar generally weighs between 20 to 25 lbs.

Fixed EZ Bar

Fixed EZ Bar

We then have the fixed EZ bar, which many people find to be the most convenient and why they are so popular in commercial gyms.

They have fixed weights on either side, as opposed to the ability to hold various plates. So they usually come in a set with a range of weights to choose from.

The weights on either end are usually coated in rubber, just for a bit of safety. Exactly how much these weigh depends on what they were designed to be and can range from 10 to 110 pounds, often going up in increments of 10 pounds.

An interesting note is that these are usually the thickest of all EZ bars, with a diameter of up to 31.75 millimeters, and they can be up to 49 inches long.

EZ Curl Bar Attachment

We then have the EZ bar curl attachment for a cable machine. The bar itself usually weighs around 7 or 8 pounds,

This allows you to combine the benefits of the EZ curl bar with the convenience of a cable machine. These are around 1 inch in diameter and can be up to 30 inches in length.

Should You Count the Weight of an EZ Bar?

Of course, you should!

If you are taking the time to train then you are likely looking to improve and you should track the weight you are lifting to help confirm your progress.

Especially when you consider that the weight you will be lifting with an EZ bar won't be as heavy as a normal Olympic barbell, the weight of the bar will make up a large part of the overall weight.

If you're just getting started, the 25-pound EZ bar might be more than enough to train your biceps without the need for any added weights.

Just because it's a part of the bar and not the additional weights you place on the bar doesn't mean that the weight doesn't count.

Rounding Up

The bottom line here is that an EZ bar generally weighs between 20 - 25 lbs.

But by using our chart you should have a better understanding of the equipment you are using to make an accurate guess at how much the bar weighs without physically weighing it on a scale.
